What are the parts of a Crawler Crane?
Cranes have several different parts. The part that makes crawler cranes most unique are the crawlers that allow the crane to move on rough or uneven ground and provide stability without the use of outriggers. While the other parts of the crane are similar to other cranes, crawler cranes are able to carry large loads that some other cranes might not be able to lift or move.
Some of the parts of the crane include:
Boom. The lifting component of the crane, usually has a lattice construction.
Carbody. The part of the machine that connects the rotating bed to the crawler assemblies.
Crawlers. The tracks that the crane is mounted on, and operate as the wheels of the crane.
Jib. The operating arm of the crane that moves horizontally to move loads.
Hoist. The machinery unit used to lift and lower the load.
Operator’s Cab. The fully enclosed and insulated compartment that holds the operating apparatus.
Sheaves. Pulleys with a grooved wheel for holding the wire ropes.
Wire Ropes. Cables made of several strands of wire twisted together and used to hoist loads in cranes.
