Top 5 Common Faults And Solutions Of Undercarriage Components Of Crawler Cranes (Part 1)

The undercarriage faults of crawler cranes mainly have the difference between large tonnage and small tonnage. Today we mainly explain the faults and solutions of small tonnage crane undercarriage.

一、 Bottom roller oil leakage of undercarriage parts of crawler crane

For small tonnage crawler crane chassis failures often occur in the oil leakage of the track roller. And as we all know, the drum body needs oil lubrication to ensure its smooth rotation. Once oil leakage occurs, the drum cannot continue to work.

Here are the causes of oil leaks and how to fix them:

1. Sealing ring defect

During the production process, defects such as pores and slag inclusions may appear in the casting of undercarriage parts, and the machining accuracy of the floating sealing ring cannot meet the standard requirements. These will cause oil leakage problems when the idler roller is overloaded.

2. Poor production environment

Some manufacturers have relatively simple assembly workshop conditions. Various wheel parts that originally required strict cleaning were piled up on the ground randomly. To make matters worse, there is no strict cleaning of the lower roller during assembly. In addition, there is a lack of professional assembly tools when assembling the sealing ring. All of these may cause oil leakage from the bottom roller or top roller in future operation.

3. Lack of rigorous product testing

Some manufacturers lack a strict testing process and just add lubricant to the wheels through a simple pressure seal test. However, good suppliers always pressure test the wheel first, evacuate the vacuum in the wheel body, and then fill it with oil. The latter can guarantee the tightness of the product better than the former.

In contrast, professional OEM manufacturers have advanced integrated assembly workshops. The processing environment is clean and standardized, and 100% of the products meet professional standards. Of course, the overall quality of the chassis components of professional manufacturers is higher, and the sealing is also better. Once the crane lower roller leaks, the quickest measure is to replace it directly. Otherwise, it may cause more severe wear of other parts of the undercarriage. It is also recommended that you choose a professional manufacturer when purchasing crawler crane crane track roller. The high-quality bottom roller is durable and has a low failure rate.

二、The bolts of the crawler crane chassis reducer are loose

When the machine rotates, it needs to output a large torque, and what can balance the torque is the pre-tightening force of the reducer bolts. There are three main reasons for the looseness of the chassis reducer bolts. Generally speaking, insufficient bolt pretightening force is the direct cause.

1. The required pre-tightening force applied to the bolt is not enough;

2. Due to the quality and material problems of the bolts and washers, the bolts cannot be fully preloaded;

3. The machining accuracy of the mounting surface of the travel reducer and the bolt washer is poor, and the joint surface cannot meet the sufficient pre-tightening force requirements.

Manufacturers should conduct factory tests on the strength of washers and bolts, and strictly control the processing accuracy of products. These are also what crawler crane owners should pay attention to when purchasing chassis parts.

If the bolts are loose due to insufficient pre-tightening force, fasten them according to the instruction manual; if the bolts or gaskets are caused by quality defects, please contact the supplier to replace them.
